Better Cookie Butter

Edible Cookie Dough recipes are cookie recipes that are safe (& tasty) to eat raw. Whereas, “Cookie Butter is basically a creamified cookie in a jar.”

The exact origin of cookie butter is questionable, controversial & the recipe’s patent was even fought over in court. While the history of this delicious sweet spread might be messy, it will only further excite your inner child as you spoon it out.

What isn’t questionable, controversial or difficult to master is the basic recipe: pulverized cookie, fat & sweetener.

Cookie: speculoos, sugar, chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chunk, gingerbread, gingersnap, peanut butter, snicker doodle, graham crackers, (any kind of cookie that can be pulverized down to a powder, so if you have dietary restrictions, this is where the baker takes control & the recipe becomes tailored to the consumer)

How to pulverize: Food processor or blender. Can be done by hand, but that will take much longer as the powder must be uniform & superfine.

Fat: butter, coconut oil, canola oil, avocado, unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, unsweetened peanut butter, unsweetened almond butter

Sweetener: white sugar, honey, splenda, sweet-n-low, equal, brown sugar, corn syrup, maple syrup, molasses, coconut sugar, agave,

Add Ins: chopped nuts, chocolate chips, dried fruit, sprinkles, spice, dash of salt, instant coffee, nutella, peanut butter sauce,

Too thick? add a bit more fat

Too thick & oily? add a bit of water or milk

Some recipe calls for you to cook & cool the mixture, while others don’t. Some cookie butters must be refrigerated, while others can’t be. This is where you go off onto the internet & find the full Cookie Butter Recipe of your dreams.

But, you can get started here:

Why Cookie Butter isn’t Cookie Dough.

Cookie Dough is the mixture we use to make a baked cookie. Eating raw Cookie Dough is considered potentially dangerous to eat by certain professionals. Cookie Butter is a mixture made from fully baked cookies & is not considered dangerous to eat at all. Regardless of your feelings on eating raw Cookie Dough, there are recipes that guarantee you won’t face the egg-related harm, but that’s still not Cookie Butter. Like Pizzas & Flatbreads or Ice Cream & Custard, Cookie Dough & Cookie Butter are relatives but they certainly aren’t twins.
