Shop Miss A

Miss A is an online only beauty dollar store.

Yes, you read that right.
Yes, I’m sure you’ll check it out for yourself before reading this
Here you go: www.shopMissA.com

Co-Founded in Texas in 2013 by New York fashion industry professional Jean Baik & her retail professional husband, Kenneth, Miss A has been a game changer in the beauty community. They not only sell their own line of PETA certified cruelty-free makeup, but also known & loved brands like E.L.F. Cosmetics & L.A. Colors. They also sell makeup tools and fashion accessories. Originally everything was priced at $1, but now there’s even more selection & still every individual item is under $5. Palettes are priced $5-10 & their carefully curated sets are priced $10-20, all value deals. With prices so low, it’s easy to be skeptical…

I placed my first order last October after binge watching ShopMissA Haul videos on YouTube. I waited until Cyber Monday, for $1 shipping on all orders (there’s a $35 minimum for free shipping otherwise), so I wouldn’t be stuck with over 30 beauty products I couldn’t use in the event I hated it all – or was allergic. I ordered 22 items & my final total was $24.

Rather than go straight for what I wanted to be disappointed, I tested the waters with beauty tools & fashion accessories. I ordered November 26th, my order was shipped on December 3rd (remember it was Cyber Monday) & it was delivered on December 10th in a black plastic envelope packed tight with goodies secured in bubble wrap and purple tissue paper sealed shut with a Shop Miss A sticker.

I was rather impressed.

I saved up my money & placed my second order on December 27th, and really did some damage. $50 worth of damage. That is the order we’ll go through today, as I impatiently await the arrival of the order I placed last Friday & shipped today. LOL

The Reviews:

  • Charity A+ 10pc Bamboo Handle Makeup Brush Set + PouchAOA-BAMBOO-SET_MAIN2.jpg
This set comes with 5 face brushes (that each come with a mesh guard to preserve shape) & 5 eye brushes that can be neatly packed into Limited Edition canvas pouch with a cute geometric pattern. The bristles are vegan & soft, and the brushes don’t shed when using or washing. I prefer a skinnier highlighting brush, so I’ve opted to use the one in this set for contouring. I had recently dumped the Ecotools Kabuki brush I clung to for literally years, but it was an easy split when this set came with two buffers with mini handles. The brush quality rivals E.L.F. for that price point. So, what’s with the A+?

✏️With the support from our amazing customers we were able to start a new Charity program at Miss A called the “A+ Education Charity“. Products sold through this A+ collection will help us support Children’s education- from providing school supplies & books, building schools where needed, and much more!

  • AOA Wonder Metal Liquid Lipstick (Sleek)
#2 Ingredient is Mica & contains fragrance. Use at your own discretion.
I would consider this more of a lip topper or glass, than a liquid lipstick. It’s very sheer despite being metallic, which can make it streaky if you mess with it too much. That being said, it is very reflective when it’s all said & done. It’s completely transfer proof.
  • AOA Wonder Matte Liquid Lipstick & Lipliner (Faded)
#2 Ingredient in Liquid Lipstick is Mica & contains fragrance. Use at your own discretion.
The liner is a much lighter color than the lippie, though they’re supposed to be a pair. That being said, both colors are very nice, subtle nudes for my skin tone. In color, the AOA liner is comparable to Jeffree Star Cosmetic’s Mannequin (warmer), whereas the AOA liquid lip is comparable to JSC’s Posh Spice (cooler). The liquid lip is must more transfer proof than the liner, it survived on my arm overnight & in the shower.
  • AOA Wonder Royal Frost Matte Liplock (Frost Plum)
#3 Ingredient is Mica & contains fragrance. Use at your own discretion.
It’s basically a matte plum color with flecks of sparkle, but not overwhelmingly so. This product claims to be a 24 Hour Lipstick. After giving it a solid minute to dry down, it smudges only if you’re really trying to make it. I was actually quite shocked. The packaging feels very cheap & it can be hard to twist, but it’s a $1 transfer proof long wear lipstick – c’mon. Check out my Instagram for swatches.
  • AOA Fat Lash Mascara & Skinny Mascara (Black)
First off, I love a good pun. The Fat Lash mascara drew my attention immediately & I picked up the Skinny one to match. Now, I love drugstore brand mascara. I fully believe there’s a high performing mascara at every price point, so why waste my money? Well Miss A heard that and has my new favorite Mascara $2 duo ever. Fat Lash gives me the volume & extension I look for in a mascara without clumping or smudging (it flakes more than smudges); whereas Skinny has the thinnest mascara wand I’ve ever seen (like liquid eyeliner, but with teeny teeth!). It’s perfect for getting anything Fat Lash didn’t, or can’t (like lower lashline & the inner corner!)
  • AOA Go Brown Mascara, Wonder Brow Pomade & Sculpting Brow Pencil (Taupe)
#3 Ingredient in Pomade is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
While Miss A’s version of Taupe is much darker than what I’ve become accustomed to as a brow novice, it doesn’t have that awful terracotta undertone that I don’t like. THat being said, it would be nice to have a true blonde tone since they go all the way to Ebony. The first time I used the Wonder Brow Pomade was the first time I had ever used (actual) brow pomade & my dad said I had “Brook Shields eyebrows,” (what he thought was an insult & I took as the greatest compliment). I use the Go Brow Mascara regularly, but you have to be careful not to reapply much because the Fiber Gel formula doesn’t build up the best.
  • a2o 25 Color Eyeshadow Palette (XOXO) $10
#1 Ingredient for both shadow formulas is Talc, #2 for matte formula is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
I wish I paid more attention to the powder products, as I am not a fan of talc at all.
  • a2o Lotus Sculpting Contour Palette $5
NO Ingredients listed on website, or on product (only on Unit Carton, which I’ve already thrown out…whoops!)
I can only assume these formulas have talc & mica in them as well, so I’ve been very hesitant to give them a try.
  • AOA Starlet Eyeliner (Spotlight)
  • AOA Perfect Eye Primer (Original)
  • AOA Perfect BB Cream (Fair)
Mica is the 8th ingredient. Use at your own discretion.
This cream is very thick, but is very sheer coverage when blended out to even complexion. I prefer a pump to a tube, but the packaging is part of why the price is so low. I think I’ll use this more in the summer than now.
  • AOA Wonder Cover Corrector (White Highlighter & Light Yellow)
VERY thick formula & definitely full coverage, but if you’re willing to work it will blend. I got white & yellow to try the formula because they didn’t have my concealer shade in stock. I would never use the white as a face highlighter, but it’s great for highlighting the inner corner or cupid’s bow. Light yellow is a good under eye brightener, but it doesn’t play well with my foundations, so maybe not…
  • AOA Wonder Skin Perfect Blurring Primer
  • Holiday Gift: AOA Highlighting Kit $10
    • Halo Highlighter (Desire & Sunstone)
#1 Ingredient for formula is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
      Gifted to my sister.
    • Lumi Blush (Sin)
#1 Ingredient for formula is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
      Gifted to my sister.
    • a2o Rainbow Highlighter (Flash)
#1 Ingredient is Talc, #2 is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
A bolder version of Veil. Gifted to my sister.
    • Lumi Blush (Wine)
#1 Ingredient for formula is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
I really dislike shimmery blushes, but I really like this one when I’m feeling my highlighter. I also thought this shade would be way too dark for me, but because the wine color is swirled with gold & pink it’s the perfect darker shade for me! It also builds really nicely for more intense color pay off.
    • AOA Wedge Sponge x4
      Basic, but dependable.
    • Wonder Baked Highlighter (Fresa & Cloud)
#1 Ingredient for formula is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
Both shades are very sheer, but that’s how my E.L.F. baked highlighters are too. I used Cloud for inner corner highlight & plan to use Fresa to highlight my nose & cupid’s bow in the spring.
    • a2o Rainbow Highlighter (Veil)
#1 Ingredient is Talc, #2 is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
A paler version of Flash, this rainbow highlighter is trendy & cute. Others claim the formula is chalky, but I’ve only experienced some fallout. It definitely needs setting spray to keep all day.
    • a2o Bronzer (Moodstone)
#1 Ingredient is Talc, #2 is Mica. Use at your own discretion.
The darker of the two Spectrum bronzers, I’m worried this will be too dark for me, especially in the winter. But, I’m willing to give it a shot, especially since it came in a bundle.
    • AOA Clear Pouch
Cute, trendy style. Fits everything from the bundle with a bit of extra room. Sides fold out like an envelope pouch for extra space.
    • AOA Blush Brush
Full length handle & full bodied, very slightly tapered brush head. I use it more for wiping excess powder than blush. Comparable to E.L.F. brushes.

What’s the deal with:

  • Talc? May contain carcinogens & cause irritation and even cancer. To avoid: “Avoid personal care and cosmetic products that contain talc … Choose companies that certify their talc is free of asbestos.”
  • Mica? Can cause irritation for sensitive skin types. To avoid: “Proper industrial hygiene practices should be followed, such as appropriate. Mica use in cosmetics is not a concern for consumers.”
